KWIKWETLEM FN ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING TRAINING

Kwantlen Polytechnic University contracted EcoLogic to provide environmental monitoring training for Kwikwetlem First Nation and Sto:lo First Nations in 2015 and 2016. Training was delivered to the Kwikwetlem First Nation in February/March 2018.

EcoLogic designed the training program, which included professional training through external providers. Training modules included assessment of water quality, wildlife, fish, vegetation, and marine ecology; surveying; spill prevention and response, legislation and regulatory requirements; communication and reporting; data management; and technical writing.

Students also received training leading to certification in first aid, forest fire fighting, erosion and sediment control, ATV operation, WHMIS and transport of dangerous goods, electrofishing, swiftwater safety and rescue, and chainsaw maintenance and safety.
